Fulton County residents living outside the city of Atlanta may be eligible to receive emergency rental assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program will provide qualified individuals with a maximum of $1,300 per month in rental assistance and $200 per month for past due utilities for up to six months, FOX5 reported.
“I’m thrilled that we are able to reopen this rental assistance program that will helping people when they need it the most,” Robb Pitts, chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, said in a Fulton County BOC press conference.
Originally started in March, the program was halted because of overwhelming demand, according to FOX5. It recently began accepting applications again and hopes to reach more residents.
Fulton County’s website states prioritized applications will include households that have been impacted by unemployment for 90 days or more, those with incomes at or below 50 percent of the area median income and those with documented eviction.
The Emergency Rental Assistance fund has been allocated $42 million, according to FOX5.
Money applicants receive will go directly to their landlords and utility companies.
